phdpqc Since your name isn't John Smith I'll ask you to find a native English speaker to correct the grammar mistake I found

@DavidJohnGibson ok. everyone at this pub wants to know why I just snorted my pint of speckled hen.

alan_townsend Reviewed paper 9 weeks late between movies & half asleep on a redeye. Authors must respond in detail to all comments.

EcologyProf This paper is great, but I am rejecting it because my paper was better and was rejected from this same journal

@DynamicEcology Jeremy Fox and zombie jokes???

This is my shocked face.

via Tweetbot for iOS in reply to DynamicEcology

@labroides yep. Saving them all for a future paperback.

via Tweetbot for iOS in reply to labroides

@FMNsocial actually it is. By day 3, exhausted and drooling while looking out we decided this would be a good story someday.

via Tweetbot for iOS in reply to FMNsocial

@FMNsocial nope. Roof rack problem on road trip from post field ski trip back to lab.

via Tweetbot for iOS in reply to FMNsocial

@LKluber @labroides samples were in roof rack (cos it was freezing outside), lock broke between CO and SLC and stuff fell out.

via Tweetbot for iOS in reply to LKluber

@labroides yeah. We spent ~40 hours searching for lost samples along hwy 80. Utah state troopers even helped. No dice.

via Tweetbot for iOS in reply to labroides

Previous tweet also a painful true story difficult to describe in 256 characters.

We didnt sample population X. Actually we spent 4 mo in Peru collecting but lost all btn Denver and Cali in a accident

@phdpqc I hate Word but prefer OSX to Linux.

@chrismentzel We briefly met at PLOS ALM in Nov. Hoping to ask you a few questions re: moore.org/initiative.asp… Best way to contact you?

@recology_ yep. First clone takes the longest, then it's incremental. can use it to boot from any mac or pop into new machine.

via Tweetbot for Mac in reply to sckottie

@zentree @recology_ @Sal_Keith I had time machine for the longest time but it's useless. Not bootable, half ass versioning.

via Tweetbot for Mac in reply to zentree

@recology_ crashplan+ (remote), bootable local HD clone (updated daily with Carbon copy cloner). @Sal_Keith

via Tweetbot for Mac in reply to sckottie

@recology_ @Sal_Keith not a great idea. Dropbox are a single backup has failed many many times.

emhrt_ I've had beers with 2 people who both had comments in Nature this month. I'm pretty sure I'm famous by proxy now @researchremix @cboettig

Regretting certain life decisions is a bit like squashing and rebasing commits locally AFTER they've been pushed to a remote.

@gvwilson @ethanwhite Heather (@researchremix) said article should be temporarily OA. In the meantime: dl.dropbox.com/u/2223411/4931…

Life would be easier if rejections (job applications, papers) were sent out exactly at 5pm (happy hr). Tanks productivity otherwise.

@arielwaldman Rather impossible to fool around on the web on a kindle. Get lots of reading done before 2nd coffee.

via Tweetbot for Mac in reply to arielwaldman

@arielwaldman use IFTTT + instapaper/readability to send longreads digest to kindle at 4am. Read for 1hr before internet upon waking up.

via Tweetbot for Mac in reply to arielwaldman

@recology_ Source code in medicine and biology.

via Tweetbot for Mac in reply to sckottie

@recology_ They accepted my abstract! Thanks for your feedback.

@rmounce Planning ahead is key (especially at confs). I made that mistake and had to buy the data from a comm tweet harvester.

via Tweetbot for Mac in reply to rmounce

@rmounce @psychemedia @rufuspollock append not even necessary. cron at regular intervals (depending on popularity), then deduplicate later.

Trying to blog more in 2013. If you have ideas for R/ community ecology/ time series/ workflow type posts you'd like to see, drop me a note.

via Tweetbot for Mac

@brembs That's the beauty of git. github can declare bankruptcy right now and nearly all projects will be fine (there is a copy somewhere).

via Tweetbot for Mac in reply to brembs

@brembs your lib would have to hire a soft eng or license a enterprise v of github to replicate this. I doubt there is funding for this. 2/2

via Tweetbot for Mac in reply to brembs

@brembs git repos can be zipped and hosted on @figshare. Hosting a git remote takes work which is why @github is a success. 1/2

via Tweetbot for Mac in reply to brembs

@brembs ?? a local git install is req for using github. which has nothing to do with long-term archiving.
