@jasonpriem Next, tell us what’s in the mini-fridge.
Really enjoying this post: 7 Habits of the Open Scientist:

@ctitusbrown Terrible reasons. especially since I’m writing an article asking people to share more code (no matter how trivial).
Tabula is a new tool that can extract tables out of PDFs. Looks promising.

bendmorris Looks like herpers are getting their own ebird: naherp.com
@naupakaz @ATredennick Everyone has admin priv. We can start dumping stuff here as needed till we get organized.

@naupakaz Is your github username naupaka?
@ATredennick What’s your github username?
LKluber Neat to see career paths MT:@mickresearch: Stories from #womeninscience balancing career and family. bit.ly/9kyy0 HT @ClareEmbling
@naupakaz I often ssh into my phone. How do you do the reverse? As in how do you know laptops IP once its frozen?
My nephew: What’s it like being a postdoc?
me: You know about shark week?
him: yes
me: Yeah, that. every week.
@naupakaz @jessicablois no, to launch the force quit window via keyboard shortcut. I always have terminal open so i kill it there.

cdasilva I'm not an electrician or anything, but I don't think this is right.. i.imgur.com/OTY0I.jpg
@sjGoring Means I’ve spent most of my life doing wrong but awesome science.
@jessicablois what about spotlight? does it let you do that? Otherwise ⌘ + ⌥ + escape to open force quit window.
@jessicablois either force quit or kill it via terminal (see my prev tweet).
@jessicablois If you’re on a mac, open terminal and run sudo killall R (then enter your osx password).
@jessicablois What OS are you on?
@recology_ If that format works, I can port that to regular packages pages on the site.
@recology_ @JEcology @altmetric Nicely done! I added it as the first use case on the package page.

sick causing round long things = parasitic worms (in case you didn’t guess that).
How fast do sick causing round long things die? Some die fast, others die slow. you never know, but you sometimes do. #UpGoerFive #myPhD
@JacquelynGill RCN might work for you. See link in other tweet.
Context for last tweet: bit.ly/SRIuhn
animals grow up. some faster than others. i figure out how what this means in the long run. #upgoerfive
@JacquelynGill This is a possibility but depends on how you pitch it.
1.usa.gov/SRHKZC
@JacquelynGill what type of workshop are you thinking?
@wallacejnichols didn't realize he passed away. I distinctly remember him handing me checks for travel to early sts meetings.
@naupakaz @ATredennick I am super swamped too. I meant more like early summer.
@naupakaz @ATredennick We have plenty of time but eventually we should start a git repo to consolidate our material.
Can someone at #OAExplored ask Jorge whether he’d consider making PhDcomics CC-BY-NC?
naupakaz Data Viz with R workshop (w/ focus on #ggplot2 ) accepted for #ESA13 ! Looking forward to working with @_inundata and @ATredennick on it

#openscience #openaccess ↬ @kara_woo
@kara_woo Are you at the event in SF? Wanted to go but too much to do here.
@recology_ @mendeley_com I’d put my money on plain old buy. They don’t just want talent but also all of us (the users, the products).
@jasonpriem all the more reason to make it open and let others build upon it.
@eswillwalker I never saw it coming. All very unfortunate because they had so much potential to advance science w/o selling out.
The more I think about it, Mendeley getting acquired by Elsevier sounds like the topic of an @TheOnion article.
@distribecology See the speculation here: tcrn.ch/UT4tQ9
@distribecology Well neither side has confirmed or denied. When the official press release from Mendeley comes out, I’ll start moving stuff
@distribecology Not until I see the official announcement but exploring alternatives just in case.
@kara_woo Thanks Kara!
@snacktavish Nice. I don’t use Word so as long as it can export any folder into bib, I’m all set.
Zotero users, does it allow you to share pdfs with collaborators in private groups?
@snacktavish How do you add refs? and into what format? do they provide automatic bib exports?
In a new blog post @bendmorris asks what incentives are there for maintaining software in academia.

Elfsevier We are buying Mendeley for $100M? Someone should tell me these things. I've been using Papers2. ow.ly/gTDMY
Hello there Papers app. Sorry I didn’t call you back for so long. I, uh, just got busy. You know how it is. #otheralternativestoMendeley?
So exhausted right now. Didn’t realize there was soapy water at the bottom of my french press. Need coffee before making more. Umm soapy.
@kaythaney I predict not favorably.
@recology_ @mendeley_com Nothing wrong with getting acquired. But by Sauron? Come on. Still the deal isn’t through so I should wait.
and there goes Mendeley.

@heyaudy @ctitusbrown @BioMickWatson Simulations took too long and the results were cold and tasteless. 1 star.
@jasonpriem Not citations but another proxy for use. Author frequently updates his data/figures. Limited to stats.
