If the science thing fails miserably at least I have an alternate career as a pastry chef.
@treycausey looks cozy! I’d trade for some rain.
@shaka_lulu So glad you made it safely!
“Anyone who emails them gets an auto-reply saying the employee isn’t in…Then poof, the email is deleted”
@noamross if you’re asking about node related stuff, I plan to ship a dat binary for production.
@kwbroman I would read @KarlBrowmansdailyprotip
@FuSchmu At least at Cal they will cover up to 2k of OA fees if you can show them you don’t have other support.
@FuSchmu and PeerJ is $99. I believe several institutions are also members of PeerJ (e..g Cal) so you might not have to pay at all.
@FuSchmu Are you still with UCD? Check with the library. They have have an OA allowance. Most UCs do.
Patrick_Ness I don’t really want a world run only by those with the thickest skins. That’s how you get your lizard overlords.
@kwbroman You are really the original hipster, Karl.
Movembering long before it was popular.
@fnothaft just looked all over and we just hopped on the SF train.
@fnothaft back now in the middle.
@fnothaft black shirt. North side too.
@maxogden My hood has many more attractions and adventures!
@kwbroman I can’t find our Photo Booth picture anywhere on your website. :(
@sgrifter human unreadable.
@carlystrasser duh, version control Carly. I don’t even.
@rabaath The latter. Don’t listen to Karl.
@scheidegger publish or read?
@ethanwhite The R support is still really basic and nowhere near ready for production use. But yes, I support more cross platform tools.
@fnothaft I’m off campus today. But you can join us at downtown Berkeley BART at 530pm if you want to come along.
@vsbuffalo let’s all get coffee once he’s back. I think it’ll be a productive conversation.
@vsbuffalo don’t lose hope. I had this *exact* conversation with Duncan recently and he turned my outlook around.
@vsbuffalo was that community ever into R?
@ppolischuk new haircut?!
@polesasunder a little surprised too.
@oceankidbilly You work at Simple now? Cool.
@boudicca me too! Lots to catch up on.
@stefanbache Sorry that’s what I meant.
@stefanbache I certainly prefer ensure_that over ensuring.
@winston_chang Oh no, did the challenge come to RStudio’s offices now?
@vijayv I’m a fellow there so I don’t have any teaching obligations.
@stefanbache Not yet but expect some issues once I begin testing!
Anyone interested in a Communications Specialist position related to data/open science at Berkeley? Please get in touch.
@FuSchmu me too!
AcademicsSay There are two types of manuscript reviews. Those that are overdue, and those that are not overdue yet.
@kwbroman Just wrote back with “Mr Ripley”. Waiting for the vitriol to pour back.
BDR sure knows how to ruin an evening.
@enterthesloth haha I like your hashtag.
@waldojaquith put that on the usodi job perks!
@srsupp uhhh Sarah. They are canceling science next week. Something about poor ratings and irreproducibility. Just FYI.
@ucfagls I get that. But is it linked to all these devices at the OS level? if so how?
@RobLanfear I’m still with Sublime May switch in the future.
@ucfagls What do you use it for?
@ucfagls Excellent idea Gavin. Will do for next time. Cheers!
@ucfagls Right, I realized that. Now taking a diff approach. Frustrating that lazy_data issues don’t show up on devtools::check but on CRAN.
@hadleywickham Will do, thanks!
@hadleywickham Used elsewhere too, but for now let’s assume it’s only needed for that fun. What would you suggest?
@ucfagls It’s a dataset in data/ and it is lazy loaded.
@hadleywickham wow, Hadley, this package is totally nuts!
@hadleywickham How do you deal with “no visible binding for global variable” when lazy loading a local (documented) dataset?
@rabaath Definitely taking you up on that!
@rabaath just found very cheap flights from SF to Aalborg. Hope it’s still available next summer.
@tpoi I don’t understand. This is your recruitment strategy? Are you at a Home Depot?
@scheidegger Bluetooth sync is terrible on the basis but you’ll have to charge the watch ev few days anyway.
wow, Randall totally gets me.
current status: bit.ly/1wmuejf
@fnothaft Sure, I’ll keep you posted.
@fnothaft Yes! please come. Most likely going to bart and uber to avoid traffic.
@polesasunder That’s why I call it the yay area.
If you’re into open data, open science, open access and like to socialize, come to @sfopendrinks Thursday 6pm at the South Beach Yacht club.
kibblesmith Marty McFly looks down at the photo of himself. A blue checkmark slowly appears next to his name.
“We did it, doc.”
@noamross no rush. I realized other (bigger) challenges exist.
AcademicsSay Have a productive weekend.
@phylorich Did you get an answer to this? Just checking in.
@hadleywickham I may just have to bribe John K to get me one off the press.
@hadleywickham Hopefully I was in the single digit pre orders. :)
@phylorich I am imagining wildebeest in the savannah.
@AmeliaMN excellent idea Alyssa!
@hspter Is “cat lady achievement unlocked” on the other side?
@romain_francois Only if you promise a stand up session too.
PPS: If they say no I got you covered for 2016.
@TheAtavism haha, I feel you.
Seeing them later next month but on a weekend.
@KathleenLuschek So dats how it gonna be? Bring dat.
@KathleenLuschek I bet you’ve been saving that one for a while.
@jebyrnes Yeah, it’s doable from the CLI. Link to dataset?
7 command line tools for data science.
Rio is new to me.
@scheidegger I’m there now, by carefully filtering has tags, muting people for 1/wk when they’re angsty. But yes, that feature would rock.
@scheidegger This is one that has thrived well. OSX only, but given that it allows regexp filtering, muting retweets, etc, so worth it.
@wilbanks I’d love one. karthik dot ram at gmail.
@ethanwhite please tell River than I’ve got a lot more fun suggestions for her.
@phylogenomics Ask Siri “What did the fox say?”
@tpoi I’d personally find that very restricting. Also, what about conference travel?
@elikint Yeah, a few. Working through those introductions now.
@arfon Awesome! Will post some comments there today.
@arfon yes, absolutely! Can you point me to the session proposal?
@dtrapezoid git pushes, git pulls, pull requests, upstream fetches, pull request, upstream fetch?
I hear ya.
@dtrapezoid Thanks Dtrap! What’s new?
@MiriamGoldste OMG! Looks like Jeff Goldblum’s station they raid in Life Aquatic!
@hadleywickham Yes, definitely.
@hadleywickham Yes, although we haven’t rolled that out org wide.
@hadleywickham We maintain a README.Rmd that gets knitted in a makefile.
@froggleston Yes I’ll be there. Expect an email from me shortly. :)
@hadleywickham ” adjunct assistant professor”
@IanMulvany Can there be on right around Mozfest? End of October? Please.
@Impactstory You rock, Stacy!
@Impactstory Do you have any vintage total impact stickers? I had one but can’t find it anymore.
@polesasunder yes it does!
@polesasunder I haven’t yet. Tell me where to sign.
